-About Stephen
Making great art is a deep passion of his, this leads to participation in ‘journeys’ across both land and water and Stephen sees it as part of the ‘human condition’.
“From this search for peace comes an urge to create. Not based on thought, but based on feeling. Feeling, work and more work.“ Stephen finds inspiration in the architecture of Nature. Inspiration is found from local walks, both here from his home on the Coast at Portland; and West Dorset; where the perspective of this unique landscape is greatly altered by walking up local hilltops, previously occupied by ancient ancestors and all along the Jurassic coastline, which is unrivalled in its variety.
In today's fast-paced world, the connection between nature and personal well-being is more important than ever. As an artist, I find myself constantly drawn to the elements of the natural environment both here at my home in Portland, Dorset. I am exploring how they influence my creative process and emotional state. In this exploration, I aim to delve deeper into the ways that nature plays a role in my artistic practice, in this case the sea, reflecting on the serene moments it offers and the inspiration it ignites. This journey intertwines my experiences with the natural world and my quest for a greater sense of well-being, often discovered on hikes around this Island.
